FAQ
What is the difference b/w counseling and psychotherapy?
There are differences and similarities as the article points out. Most important is for us to meet in person to help determine how I can serve you. I am an out-of-network provider, however, I can provide a superbill to you for your health insurance company.
What is the difference b/w psychotherapy and coaching?
This article provides more information however, the main difference is psychotherapists treat mental health conditions whereas coaches do not. The former focuses on the present and delves into your past where coaching focuses on specific goals for your future.
What is out-of-network versus in-network provider?
This is related to your health insurance and the article notes some differences to be mindful of.
How do I know if a specific therapist or coach is right for me?
When choosing a therapist or coach, start by asking for a recommendation from someone you trust or by reflecting on what you hope to gain from sessions. Look for someone who specializes in that area, and take time to read about their experience and approach. If you feel you might be aligned, meet with them one to three times before deciding. The most important part of the process is the relationship itself—it’s essential to feel comfortable, understood, and free to be honest without judgment. Finding the right fit is like dancing: even skilled dancers don’t always move well together, and not every therapist will be the right match for you.
How often would we meet?
First, let’s have a 15 minute call to decide if we are a good fit. I meet with clients weekly for 45 minutes, virtually or in person. I prefer we have a consistent day and time for meeting, but I can be flexible. Weekly sessions will last no less than three months, after which we can decide whether to continue that schedule or decrease the frequency. My vision is that we will work together less than 12 months; however, we will assess your progress every 3 months or so and determine this together.
What will happen during our first session?
That depends on what you’re looking for, but I’ll spend time asking questions to get to know you, your background, and what you’d like us to work on together. You will also be given ample opportunity to ask questions.
